CFAR
Children of Families at Risk (CFAR) is a curriculum based education program for children and youth grades 1-12 growing up in families with or at risk for alcoholism or other drug addictions. The program is intended to break the intergenerational cycle of addiction in families. CFAR is led by specially trained adult educators utilizing the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administratio (SAMHSA) Children's Program Kit. The Children of Families at Risk Program requires group attendance and participation of the children and youth involved. The groups are closed, structured, curriculum based, age appropriate, developmentally appropriate, experientially based and culturally appropriate. CFAR empowers children and youth to feel safe, to develop resiliency, and to be supported. Through participation in the program, children and youth will establish a social suport network, develop healthy coping skills, identify and express feelings and understand the disease of alcoholism and other drug addictions.
Why should we care about these children?
- They are our children - our future.
- There are so many of them.
- Their problems create widespread social disarray.
- They often live in confusion, fear, and isolation.
- They can be helped.
- Recovery form addiction is greater when the whole family is helped.
